Authorising Crownstead
Authorising Crownstead allows us to deal directly with HMRC or the Local Authority on your behalf.
This means we can communicate with them, request information, submit your claim or audit, and progress your case without needing you to chase anything.
You remain in full control — authorisation simply allows us to manage the admin efficiently.
Nomination / Assignment of Refunds
Where permitted by HMRC or the Local Authority, your authorisation also includes a nomination / assignment allowing Crownstead Ltd to:
Receive the refund, payment, or credit relating to your case
Deduct the agreed success fee
Transfer the remaining balance to you
This reduces delays and avoids you needing to make a separate payment of our fee.
When nomination / assignment is not accepted
Some authorities do not allow refunds to be issued to a third party.
If HMRC or the Local Authority sends the refund directly to you instead:
We will invoice our agreed success fee upon receipt of the refund or applied reduction.
Payment terms are outlined in your Terms of Business / LOA.
64-8 Agent Authorisation Form
For some HMRC-submitted claims (e.g., pension tax refunds), we may ask you to complete HMRC’s 64-8 Tax Agent Authorisation Form.
This permits Crownstead Ltd to:
Access relevant tax records
Discuss your case directly with HMRC
Manage your reclaim from start to finish
The authorisation remains in place until it is withdrawn by you or replaced with a new agent appointment.
Note: This step is only required where HMRC requires agent access. It is not required for all services.
Refunds Paid Directly to Clients
For services where HMRC or the Local Authority pays you directly:
Our success fee becomes payable once the refund or saving is issued.
You will be invoiced securely with clear payment instructions.
Your obligation to pay our success fee remains enforceable regardless of how the refund or saving is issued.
